Staff Senate Raises Money for Mammogram Scholarships

The Athens State University Staff Senate raised over $400 during their annual Breast Cancer Awareness Fundraiser. All of the money collected was donated to the Athens-Limestone Hospital Foundation to be used for mammogram scholarships, which provide mammograms for women who are not covered by health insurance. The Staff Senate is proud to partner with the ALHF each October to raise money for this very worthwhile cause.

Each year, the Staff Senate thinks of creative ways to raise money; this year, the group sold small pumpkins as part of the “Hello, Pumpkin” fundraiser. Faculty and staff members were able to purchase pumpkins, write notes for the recipients, and have them delivered to their friends and co-workers on campus as a fun fall surprise.

“We’ve all been negatively affected by cancer in one way or another, and it means a lot that our fellow Athenians stepped up to support this great cause,” said Chris Latham, Presiding Officer of Athens State University’s Staff Senate. “I am extremely happy to be associated with a staff that is so giving to those in need.”
